PEHF MM2023 ESTONIA IFMSA GA SCHOLARSHIP – RESULTS OF EVALUATION OF APPLICATIONS
DEAR APPLICANTS FOR THE PEHF MM2023 GA SCHOLARSHIP,
It is with great pleasure that we announce the results from the evaluation of all applications for the MM2023 Scholarship, provided by the Prof. Erik Holst Fund to a promising medical student, member of IFMSA, in order to cover part of the expenses for his/her participation at the IFMSA General Assembly – March Meeting 2023 in Tallinn, Estonia.

We received applications in total, 78 excellent applications from all 5 IFMSA Regions. After a thorough, 2-rounds-long evaluation that lasted 7 days, we finally reached to the winner, who is:
Mr. Ahmed Abdelrahman Ahmed from Egypt!
Congratulations!
The Board of Directors of the Fund will be in touch with him in the following days in order to arrange properly how the scholarship will be received by its beneficiary.
We would like to take this opportunity and provide you with full details on how the whole evaluation procedure took place, in terms of transparency.
The Fund first announced the call for applications for the scholarship on November 29th over Erik Holst Facebook page and erikholstfund.com and provided a timespan of 8 days for receiving applications online. The first announcement was also posted on various IFMSA-related Facebook groups, and was followed by 1 reminder as the deadline approached. The deadline for receiving applications expired on December 7th 2022, 23:59 (GMT/UTC). The application procedure was done at our website erikholstfund.com by filling in an online application form, which included a CV and a Motivation Letter of each applicant as a prerequisite for application submission. Through these two texts, we would be able to better become acquainted with each candidate and take a thorough look into their aspirations from their possible participation in the GA, their vision of IFMSA and themselves in it, as well as their background and achievements both academic, professional and personal. As the scholarship aims mainly in students who cannot attend the GA due to financial constraints, special attention was given to any relevant information provided by the applicant. Applicants that haven’t attended a GA before, and those who had previously applied for our scholarship programme were also seen in a more favorable way.
After the 1st round of evaluation, a ranking list of all applicants was determined. Then, all applicants were arranged according to IFMSA Region and the first two of each Region were chosen, which provided us with a list of 19 finalists in total, due to some ties. Then, a 2nd round of evaluation followed, starting with these 19 finalists, which led us to the final ranking list that gave the winner of the scholarship.
Finally, we would like to thank once again all those who applied, especially those who made it to the list of the finalists. We are sorry that we could not give more scholarships this time, but hopefully we will be able to do so for the next GA, that is the AM2023! We do encourage all of the applicants to re-apply next time, when the call for applications is released! We will be happy to receive your applications once again when time comes!
Check our website erikholstfund.com for more news & updates on the GA Scholarships and other upcoming grants, as we will be enriching its content soon, after the scholarship is received, as we shall be following our grantee Mr. Ahmed and his experience at the IFMSA GA- MM2023!
Kind regards,
Konstantinos M. Roditis

Erik Holst AM21 GA Scholarship Awarded to IFMSA Travel Assistance Fund Runner-Up – An update
Dear PEHF donors and friends,
Dear IFMSA Alumni Family,
We would like first of all to take this opportunity and wish you all the best of health amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which, unfortunately, is still causing a global disease burden.
Furthermore, we would like to inform you all about some recent developments in PEHF and its scholarship programme:
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and the travel limitations thereof, we were not able to provide any scholarships for GA attendees for the past year 2020. We also did not launch any call for new applications, for the same reason. However, as an exception, in 2021, a decision was taken by the Board of Directors to assign one (1) GA scholarship to the 1st runner-up of the IFMSA Travel Assistance Fund (TAF) list of applicants. The 500EUR scholarship was assigned to Mr. Yahya Korteh from GaMSA-Gambia to enable him to attend the AM21 in Panama, since the AM21 was only intended as a physical meeting for NMO-heads. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, which could not be attributed to his wrongdoing, Mr. Korteh was unable to issue a visa for his travel and, eventually, did not travel to Panama. On the other hand, he made serious expenses buying his flight tickets and following the necessary visa application process. Therefore, after careful consideration, we decided not to revoke the assigned scholarship, but to reimburse Mr. Korteh for his expenses, up to 500EUR (that is 125EUR for his registration fee + 42EUR for visa expenses + 333EUR for flight tickets loss). We would like to share the whole process with you all, dear friends and supporters of PEHF, for transparency reasons, as well as to keep everyone on the same page, in terms of continuity. We truly hope that the COVID-19 crisis will soon be over, that it will remain only “a bad dream” in our memory, and that really soon, we shall be able to restart the usual PEHF function, enabling more IFMSA students to attend an international IFMSA GA, gain knowledge and expertise, and transfer this accumulated wealth back to their local communities.
Kind regards,
The PEHF Board of Directors

You may also look through some photographs of him during his participation.
All this would never have happened, if you, individual Alumni, had not offered your generous donations to the PEHF!
We therefore call upon your kind assistance in making the Erik Holst Fund a sustainable project, created and run by IFMSA Alumni, by offering your kind donations using our PayPal platform. You may choose between an ONE TIME or a RECURRENT donation, although we would prefer the latter!
It’s so simple! For example, if every IFMSA Alumnus/a offered 1 Euro as a recurring monthly donation, we would end up with over 20.000 € to give away as GA scholarships and project grants each year!

Recent development: Revoking the scholarship for AM2019 due to awardee travel inability
Dear PEHF donors, friends, IFMSA Alumni and family,
We would like to inform you on a recent development regarding the change of the PEHF AM2019 GA scholarship recipient, due to last minute inability of the initial awardee, Mr. WUNDE from Cameroon to travel to the GA in Taiwan.
The PEHF Board decided to revoke the scholarship from Mr. WUNDE and instead award it to the 1st runner-up of the last applications evaluation process, that was:
Mr. Rajesh Sharma, from NMSS-Nepal!
Congrarulations goes to Rajesh, who recently attended the AM2019 and will be soon receiving the scholarship.
Stay tuned for more on Rajesh’s experience from the GA in Taiwan as well as more news by the PEHF in our upcoming newsletter issue!
